Yoga During Menopause - Can We Do Yoga? Can we do yoga during periods of pregnancy? As a yoga teacher, I often get this question. My response is that we can definitely practice yoga during periods of pregnancy. There are many ways to learn and practice yoga during pregnancy. We could choose to either go for classes regularly at our local community center, or we could incorporate yoga exercise into our daily routine. There is one question that always comes up: "Can we do yoga during periods of pregnancy?" The answer to this question is yes. There are several types of yoga that are very beneficial to women who are pregnant. These types of yoga include prenatal yoga, vinyasa yoga, prenatal relaxation and prenatal justice. These types of yoga can be practiced at home, at the office or while on a walking routine. During each of these periods, a pregnant woman should pay close attention to her body. This would mean that a regular yoga practice can help a woman keep track of her progress, her body's temperature and blood flow. Also, yoga can help her keep calm in stressful situations, by reminding her of her breathing and how to relax. Pregnancy yoga helps women realize that she is not doing something wrong if she experiences pain during her period. It is normal for a pregnant woman to experience some discomfort. She may even experience some spotting, which is a natural occurrence in pregnancy. What is not normal is if the spotting occurs in areas that are highly sensitive to touch, such as the inside of the vagina. A good yoga instructor will explain to a beginner in yoga that the vagina is sensitive and it can be affected by intense heat. So, a woman needs to wear light, cotton clothing that will allow her skin to breathe. This can be accomplished by using organic cotton in the outer layer of the clothing. Additionally, a woman should sleep flat on her back, which allows for greater blood flow into the vagina. Her breathing will increase as well. Once a week, during her period, a woman should get up and walk around for about an hour, using her natural rhythm and exercise. Another question that can we do yoga during periods? Periods cause uncomfortable bloating, so many women turn to yoga to relieve this symptom. There are many poses, such as the tree pose and the fish pose, that can be used to alleviate the bloating. However, there are also poses that help women to feel lighter, such as cobra and downward facing dog, which can help with period cramps. As a woman grows pregnant, she should pay special attention to her body. The growing belly creates a lot of extra pressure on the organs, especially the bladder. Periods can be quite painful as a result of this. Can we do yoga during periods? Yes, yoga can be modified to accommodate a woman's growing body, and there are poses specially designed for this purpose. The best time to practice yoga for relieving period pain is as close to the time of the menstrual cycle as possible. This is because menstrual cramps generally last from a couple of days to a few weeks. A woman may need to do stretching exercises or other activities on days when she does not have a period, in order to relieve the pressure and get relief from the pain. Yoga can be modified to take into account the changing body that happens throughout a woman's period, and can be done safely and comfortably. Another question that often comes up is "Can we do yoga to ease muscle pain during periods?". Yoga is wonderful for reducing stress and is particularly useful during a woman's period, as the stretching helps to loosen up tight muscles and give more flexibility to joints. It can also relieve tension in the muscles, which can cause period pain. The best stretches for a period are the ones that lengthen the spine. These stretches help to support and cushion the muscles that are stretched, and are very gentle, but effective during a period. Can we do yoga during periods? The answer is a yes. There are many different poses that can be used to relieve pain, and even to promote healing of some of the symptoms of pregnancy, such as headaches, insomnia, and mood swings. Some of the basic yoga positions that can be used to help ease discomfort during a period are prenatal yoga positions, standing supported, supine yoga positions, back bend, child's pose, water yoga positions and camel pose. What are some of the benefits of yoga that make it so helpful during times of pregnancy? There has been extensive research done that demonstrates the power of yoga for pregnant women.
